Lawrenceville, PA-- August 28, 2008—Friday September 12,
2008 make a point to head down to see the Wizard of Oddities. Sam
Thorp will be exhibiting some intriguing figurative work in the show titled
“Voyeuristic Intentions”.
Sam Thorp uses her classical training to explore modern
conventions in this mixed media exhibition of figures and portraits. Most
notable is her distinctive gesture style with colorful and arabesque line work.
The subject matter
communicates modern detachment, viewing identity and situations from a
distance. The viewer has an opportunity to spy in on the models who are from
various countries and cultures around the world. Whether it be a photo frame, computer monitor, or window
frame; this sort of voyeur ism is controversial because at worst, it feeds a
narcissistic culture seeking superficial validation. But in a few rare
instances it has allowed the artist to make real life connections to the
international models. And the viewers get to meet, in a way, personalities and
characters they would not have known otherwise.
The opening is Friday
September 12th, 7-11pm, with drinks and the artist on hand. The gallery is located at 4314 Butler
St. in Lawrenceville. The show will run for two weeks. For directions and more
information please contact 412-325-4144. For more information about the artist,
