Hello,  When i was getting my oil changed, the guy said i had a torn open CV boot and all the grease was leaked out.  What is this and do i need to get it fixed soon?

Hi SW

CV boots cover the Constant Velocity Joints on your axles.  When the boot tears, the grease is thrown out and the joint usually gets damaged.  If the joint just tore, and the car has low miles, and there is no clicking then steering, you can remove the joint, clean it out, put a new boot on, repack the joint with grease, and reinstall.  Most of the time the best repair is to just replace the axle  with a new or rebuilt unit.  That way, both joints and boots are new (inner and outer) and will be trouble free for years.

If you drive on it as it is going bad, it will eventually break and strand you wherever it breaks.  The car will not move.

Thanks
