ACAF's First Annual “Big Splash”

Sponsored by Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center (PVSEC)

With Board member Sally Wiggin as Mistress of Ceremonies, over 150 guests attended the Animal Care & Assistance Fund's First Annual “Big Splash” on Friday, July 10, 2009, at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.  Tropically dressed guests mingled among the fish, enjoyed delicious cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and dinner while listening to the sounds of live steel drum music. The evening finished with fun tropical desserts, a fabulous silent auction and gift raffle. All proceeds will benefit ACAF.

ACAF was formed in 2008. To date, we have assisted over 30 pet owners in dire  financial situations. We receive requests daily, and are working to raise funds to help those who are desperate to save their pets from death or needless suffering. Every year more than 1,000,000 pets go without veterinary care in the United States. It is devastating when an owner's financial situation makes them unable to provide veterinary care for a treatable yet life-threatening condition.

Currently, ACAF is developing a Blood Bank for Animals:  “Pets Giving Pets the Gift ofLife”.   By the end of summer, ACAF will have the only area blood bank at PVSEC for canines and felines insuring that we will have a safe and ready supply of blood.   The First Annual Golf Classic at Lakeview Golf Club is scheduled for August 30th with the proceeds going to support the Blood Bank.

We are also very proud to announce ACAF's newly formed “Special Funds” for the retired K-9Unit “work” dogs, and “Asta's Angel Fund” that helps pets with cancer.“K-9 Rocks”, a concert by Joe Grushecky and Tres Lad will be held at Diesel on the Southside on October 9th to raise funds for emergency and specialty care to honor the retired K-9 Unit dogs.

ACAF is the benevolent extension of the Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center, which is the most comprehensive, multi-specialty veterinary center in Western Pennsylvania.  The hospital has theregion's only on-site MRI for pets and 24/7 emergency care.
