NSCAA 2010 Soccer Convention in Philadelphia
NSCAA 2010 Soccer Convention in Philadelphia Thursday January 14th 2010, the Pittsburgh Grapevine packed its bags and headed off to Philadelphia for the annual NSCAA Soccer Convention. This has for many years led the field in soccer conferences across the country and has thousands of soccer fans and coaches descend upon it year after year. On arrival at the very impressive Philadelphia downtown convention center I was met with hundreds upon hundreds of soccer fanatics, clad in their teams sweat tops and pants, perhaps a new soccer ‘cult' had formed? People everywhere, wondering around faces deep into their program guides, disappearing into random rooms. As I approached the exhibit hall, I caught sight of a couple mainstays of US Soccer for the past fifteen, twenty years; Cobi Jones and Marcelo Balboa. I new for sure I was in the right place now! On entry into the HUGE exhibit hall the hundreds of soccer folk turned into what had to be thousands. This was a very impressive scene; right in front of me was a live broadcast set from Fox Soccer Channel, with another great player of the past Eric Wynalda presenting. The Major League Soccer Draft 2010 had just taken place earlier in the day and that was the hot topic for discussion. This room had everything to appease even the hardest of soccer fans, from all the major soccer equipment companies to some very strange new soccer gadgets and even a couple guys walking around with soccer balls showing off some of the most extravagant ball juggling I had ever seen. It hurt your body just watching these guys! For the next 3 days the options and choices for the participants was like choosing food from one of the worlds best menus. You had special events, field sessions, lecture session and even classes that allowed you to complete your State Diploma. Some of the best coaches from all over the globe were in attendance sharing their knowledge with current professional to youth coaches from America, a truly wonderful experience for all.I must say the Pittsburgh Grapevine had a first class experience at the NSCAA 2010 Convention and was immensely impressive on how smooth the operation was run, this really is ‘Disneyworld' for soccer fans.
