6th Annual Women of Achievement Awards

Celebrate & Share Announce Annual Women of Achievement Honorees

Twenty-three of Pittsburgh's most notable women were honored for their accomplishments and contributions to the city of Pittsburgh at the 6th Annual Celebrate & Share, Women of Achievement Awards on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. More than 300 guests gathered at the Omni William Penn Hotel on to celebrate women from the region and to raise funds for Pittsburgh-based charity, Cribs for Kids® Infant Safe Sleep Initiative.

District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala, Jr. and his wife Mary Zappala returned to Chair the event along with Presenting Sponsors Fifth Third Bank and UPMC St. Margaret. The Women of Achievement Awards is traditionally held every March in observance of Women's History Month. Every $50 raised at the event will provide a crib for a baby in need and will provide safe sleep education for that baby's family in an effort to reduce the risk of injury and accidental suffocation of infants due to unsafe sleeping environments.

Celebrate & Share, co-founded by Bonnie DiCarlo and JoAnn Forrester, is a local organization that features the achievements of women in Pittsburgh and raises funds for organizations which focus on the needs of women and children in the community. The Women of Achievement Awards Dinner brings attention to Pittsburgh in recognition of Women's History Month and highlights the women of Pittsburgh who contribute greatly to the successes and advancement of the city.

Cribs for Kids® was founded in 1998 in Pittsburgh by Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala, Jr.;
Cribs for Kids® Executive Director, Judith Bannon; the late Mayor Bob O'Connor and the late Commander Gwen Elliott. Since then, the program has networked throughout Pennsylvania and has grown to more than 250 partners in 48 states.
