Pittsburgh gallery crawl Hoted by Gallery Chiz
Pittsburgh Gallery Craw October 3rd, 2008Friday October 3rd was the art filled night extravaganza of the month featuring the Pittsburgh gallery crawl. Just outside of the cultural district, Gallery Chiz hosted the evening, featuring fine food, music and the art of Dennis Bergevin "Supporting Cast". Each of these wonderful marionettes are something of a cross between drama characters, imagination and facets of Mr Bergevin's complex personality. All with, as expected (if you know Denis), a kind heart, positive outlook, and strong sense of dignity. This is possibly one of his strongest bodies of work, building on a background of exceptional talent.Next on the tour was the downtown cultural district featuring at least 23 openings, all within crawling distance. Starting this leg of the night was Salon Christine, featuring the artwork of Sarah Zeffiro, and the compromised sounds of DJ Kelli Burns. Trombino Piano Gallery in cooperation with Renaissance Art Gallery hosted John Cannon on piano with international works of art on the walls, John is definitely a master of the Steinway, and proved it by stopping crawlers in their tracks. North side Urban Pathways Gallery hosted Sounds of Steel and the work of local crafters.Future Tenant put on another show stopper with "The Ties That Bind", this collaborative multi-media group show resulted in a line around the block for most of the night. If you chose not to stand in that line, the 709 Penn Gallery's line was not quite as long, but the room was packed. Yes another strong show featuring the work of Leslie Ansley. Her work featured images of hope relating to the Hill District's challenges with respect to the futureJust a few steps to the 707 Penn Gallery, and the Wild Man's World wood block print exhibition, featuring the work of Paul Roden and Valerie Lueth, in the spotlight. This feature of Tugboat Print Shop, was a wonderful example of old world technique with a modern twist. It is true, you do not need a computer to make good artFinally was the Backstage Bar, for many that may have been the first and last, (and for some possibly only) stop. However a good time was had by all, no matter how long of a crawl.
